As some loyal readers of this blog may know, I tend to rag on Apple a little bit, not because they make bad stuff but becaue they charge too much for the stuff they make and because there tends to be a cult following around Apple products which often ignores the real world shortcomings of those products and exaggerates, or outright lies, about the shortcomings of competitor products.
Competition is good, lying isn't.
As such I have been criticized as an Apple hater and Microsoft fanboy when really all that I'm trying to do with this blog is highlight innovative and interesting technology.
Technology that I can afford.
Generally speaking Apple technology is often neither innovative nor affordable. Their computers, while pretty, are built on technology that is about one hardware generation behind but sometimes more. That's not necessarily bad but it's not something they advertise. There are much better phones on the market than the iPhone too - always have been - and there are also much better mp3 players than the iPod - the ZuneHD for example. Be that as it may, these wouldn't be big issues if those products weren't so damn expensive.
Which is why I'm excited to announce that I now have an iPad.
Yes the iPad is a bit pricey but not overly so. It also happens to be the only device of it's kind on the market. Sure there are tablet PCs - I even own one - but none of them have the iPad form factor. Coupled with the fact that most major magazine publishers are working on bringing their mags to the iPad and that you can get almost any book through either the Kindle app or iBooks and the case for the iPad becomes pretty compelling. I've been looking for a device to read magazines on for years and I even thought that a tablet pc might do the trick but tablets are too heavy to read with comfortably and ebook readers don't do magazines well at all. The iPad however changes all that. With it one can read magazines comfortably and publishers can even improve upon them. Books work well on it and the battery life of the device is not an issue at all. Besides reading you can surf the Internet and read more stuff there or you can install apps but don't believe the hype. Of the tens of thousands of apps in the App Store, only a handful of them are actually useful. The rest are simply ways to separate you from your money. All in all, I'm liking the iPad so far and the future looks promising. As a platform it is still very young but I'm sure as it evolves it will become as ubiquitous as smart phones and mp3 players are now.
P.S. This entire post was written using my iPad.

mike as usual you are uninformed and opionionative. How are Apple computers 1 year behind? Please look at tech specs before making random claims. Also OS X and apple hardware are user interfaced based, ie. multi touch track pads and mice, gestures. Osx also has better more secure networking (AFP). I mean its kinda sad that linux is a better windows file server then windows. As for your ipad, it is only usless to you because you dont know how to use it, that and the fact that it is surrounded by usless microsoft junk that it wont interact with based on principle only exsaserbates your problems. In conclusion, as usual you have little to no actual knowledge about well..anything. Thanks for wasting my time while i charged my iphone.
Whatever 'Anonymous'...if that is your real name...and I'm opinionated not 'opinionative'. Stop making up words. Back to what you said though, my hardware claims are not random, it has taken Apple the better part of this year to upgrade their computers to the Core ix series of CPUs (aka Core 2010), something most PC makers did late last year and early this year. I also hate to burst your bubble but PCs are user interface based too. In fact they even have GUIs just like your beloved OSX with icons and everything! And you're absolutely right, Windows servers are terrible and nobody uses them...wait that's not right.
Also, I never said my iPad was useless, in fact if you had actually read my post you would know that I really like my iPad. It's interesting that you seem to despise me and what I have to say yet you apparently read my blog enough to know my usual take on things and not only did you read my latest post but you took the time to comment on it as well!
Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my post and I'm glad I could help you kill some time while you charged your iPhone.
P.S. Do be careful about how you hold your iPhone, I wouldn't want you to drop calls by holding it wrong or anything.
