Now that I have an iPad I’m paying a bit more attention to Apple announcements, like Steve Job’s keynote from today. While I’m excited to hear about the new iOS update coming to the iPad what I’m really interested in is the new Apple TV. If more TV networks sign up it could
become a replacement for our $72-a-month satellite TV. First-run shows on demand, the day they air? That is really compelling but only if I can replace my existing TV service provider and save money in the process. What I’m not interested in is yet another thing to hook up to the television. I like the idea of replacing a big, hot, slow and often noisy satellite receiver with a small, silent more capable box. What I’d really like to see is a monthly, all-you-can-eat subscription for less than I’m paying for satellite. That would be great. In other news, Lifehacker has informed me that I will be able to run OSX in a virtual machine on my Windows 7 PC. If I can get it to work as advertised I will finally be able to rid my system of iTunes and confine the terribly written piece of crapware to where it belongs, on Mac OS living in a virtual machine inside of Windows 7. Then my computer will finally be able to return to it’s pre-iTunes glory days of speed and reliability (I’m not kidding, iTunes is THAT bad).
Also, Palm will apparently be releasing WebOS 2.0 sometime in the near future which looks awesome and I’m hoping includes some battery-life-extension tweaks.
And, the Zune HD still rocks.
Finally in an update to my previous post, no sooner do I rejoice in the cool autumn air does it change to a hellishly hot and humid 40 degrees Celsius. The weather boffins assure me however that I must only bear the brutal heat two more days before it goes back to a more pleasant 15 degrees. I’m glad I now work in an air conditioned office building.
Still…damn you sun worshippers, damn you!!!
